SECOND ANNUAL ‘G.I.S VS. JOES’ MIXED MARTIAL ARTS EVENT TO BE HELD AT ST. CHARLES FAMILY ARENA

ST. LOUIS, MO, January 29, 2008 -- “G.I.s vs. Joes II,” the second annual combative sports event featuring U.S. Army Combative specialists and mixed martial arts elite athletes representing Kick International, will take place Saturday, February 22 at the Saint Charles Family Arena. A portion of the proceeds will be donated by Kick International to Army Emergency Relief.

Matt Hughes, a professional mixed martial arts elite athlete and former nine-time UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) world welterweight champion from Hillsboro, Illinois, will be on hand at the event.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. the event will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced between $10 and $50 and can be obtained at Metro-Tix and www.kickinternational.com. An after-party for the winners will be held at Pujols 5 Restaurant at West Port.

“The U.S. Army is happy to partner with Kick International to support mixed martial arts, one of the fastest-growing sports in the country,” said Colonel Junio-Omaru Barber, Commander US Army Recruiting Battalion. “We’re proud to represent a sport that allows athletes to demonstrate many of the shared values and qualities exemplified in the Army, including leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as members of their teams.”

The goal of the event is to feature a world-class event presenting the best of “Cage” competition and to stimulate interest in the sport. The three top winners will be awarded G.I.s vs. Joes II belts recognizing these champions.

Kick International is a St. Louis-based, 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization that was formed as a foundation for amateur athletic sports, to create and develop a national training center and develop funding for affiliated events, gyms and instructors. Kick International supports amateur combat sports, kickboxing and mixed martial arts athletes by promoting wellness in mind, body and spirit while giving them positive life skills that can be utilized throughout the course of their lives.
